An official CFIA survey confirmed a live spotted lanternfly in Windsor. Movement restrictions apply to regulated plant materials.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) lists a September 2026 spotted lanternfly Detection in Windsor, Ontario. CFIA uses Detection to mean a live spotted lanternfly confirmed through official CFIA surveys, not only a public report.

The Invasive Species Centre says this is the first confirmed detection in Ontario and in Canada, with the survey confirmed Sept. 15, 2026. Movement restrictions apply to regulated plant materials.

CFIA has not confirmed an established, reproducing population.

The insect threatens grapevines and other crops, as well as yards and parks. If you see one, take a photo, put it in a sealable bag and report it to CFIA at inspection.canada.ca.
